Esperanza Estates

Green Valley, Az.

April 13th

Good Morning:

One of our residents is in need of some help. Stina Herrick injured herself in a fall a few months ago and is still recuperating. She needs a wheel chair for about five weeks. She has been using one from Friends-in-Deed, but has come to the end of the period for which they will allow use of one of their wheel chairs. If you have a wheel chair that is not being used, and could loan it to Stina, it would be much appreciated. Her telephone is 399-3401, and she lives at 788 Regalo. Stina has been a valuable volunteer in EE, and we would like to help her out if possible. Many thanks for your consideration.

About 40 people gathered for Coffee and Donuts at the Ramada last Wednesday morning, with a few brave souls also taking a Bloody Mary. It was a nice gathering, as all of these have been. This function will continue until June, on the second Wednesday of each month, following which it will be suspended for the summer months and begin again in September. If you have not attended previously, make it a point to do so in the future. It is always a “freebee”, and is privately sponsored with no HOA money involved. No charge, no agenda, just a social time with friends and neighbors.

The Board voted at a special meeting recently to go ahead with refurbishing the cool decking in our pool enclosure, which has gotten more than a little rough looking. This has not been done for about the past 6 or 8 years, and is past due. The work will be performed by Ekonomy Pools, which is the same company that re-did our pool and spa drains recently to bring them into compliance with the new legal requirements. Several bids were received before hand, and Ekonomy was selected as the best one. This work will begin on May 4th, and will likely require closing the pool for about 3 days. Notices will be posted as the time nears, but please make a note of it.

The Board also recently voted to redo the watering system in Sunset Park, which had developed a number of leaks and problems with clogged emitters, as well as a failing timer which no longer functions. Some of the plantings were taken off the watering system as no longer necessary. The work was completed on Friday, April 10th, and a new watering system timer was installed that now control both the plantings in Sunset Park and within the pool enclosure. The timer that had previously controlled the enclosure planting was about 20 years old and totally obsolete. It has now passed onto the scrap heap of history. The replacement is state-of-the-art, and will function for years into the future without further difficulties. Your Board is attempting to be pro-active where possible and prevent problems where possible by acting ahead of those that can reasonably be anticipated.

The next regular Board meeting will be held next Monday, April 20, at Sunset Ramada, beginning at 1:00. An agenda for the meeting will be posted with next week’s MMM.

A Hamburger Nite will follow on Tuesday the 21st (corrected), to begin at 4:30, also at the Ramada.

Bunco players: remember the game today at 1:00 at Sunset Ramada--weather permitting.

Pickleball players: beginning this week all Tuesday and Thursday play will begin at 8:00 am. Wednesday play will commence at about 9:30 am, when the regular tennis players finish up.

Kudos to our resident Richard Magnuson, who has agreed to keep the timers current for the lights in the pool and spa and the Ramada, as the seasons and hours of daylight change.

The following report was received from Mary Beth Wallace, Chairperson of our Neighborhood Watch Committee:

On Thursday, April 9th, 21 of your EE Block Captains and Assistants attended 'Coffee and Cop Talk' at the SAV facility. The program was organized by Mary Lou Sampson, SAV Manager for Neighborhood Watch. Deputy Gabe Ruiz, a 24 year member of the Pima Co Sheriffs Dept., gave a very interesting and informative presentation.
Deputy Ruiz covered numerous areas of concern from scams to illegal's. The primary emphasis was for everyone to be AWARE of what is happening in your area. Know what is normal activity for your neighborhood. If you see suspicious persons or vehicles, call 911. Deputy Ruiz cited a situation that a theft ring was discovered by a lady reporting a car driving slowly past her home, then returned coming down the other side of her street. He emphasized the importance of having the Envelope of Life completed and on your refrigerator for medical emergencies.

DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL 911 IF YOU SEE OR HEAR ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS.

Your Block Captains will be distributing to every resident in their zone a packet containing some very good information. Please take time to review the contents
.

We have had some recent reports of illegal immigrants being picked up in multiple vehicles in the early morning hours near our tennis court, so please be vigilant, and report anything that you see that appears amiss.

If you are leaving for the season, make sure your residence is properly secured--especially your sliding doors.

Happy birthday to Ken Miller!

Have a good week. We hope you all had a pleasant Easter celebration.
