Independence Day
In 1776, John Adams said that Independence Day "ought to be
solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports,
guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of
this continent to the other, from this time forward forever
more." Our Hospitality Committee can't promise to deliver
on all of those, but you can celebrate the great day at the
Ramada on Thursday,
July 4, at 4:30. For
$6 you'll get grilled sausages and peppers, potato salad,
baked beans and beverages. Just what John Adams had in
mind.

Vandalism Alert
A resident on S. Circulo Napa has reported that a car was
vandalized in front of her house sometime last Sunday
evening. The gas cap cover was pried open and destroyed, as
if someone was going to siphon gas, although that didn't
happen. Another resident on Nueva reported a similar
incident during the same time frame. Both incidents have
been reported to the Sheriff's Office. Be on the lookout for
any suspicious activity in our community, and report it to
Mary Beth Wallace as well as the Sheriff.

Temporary Management Change for the EE Pool
Recreation Director Tom
Cooke is
heading north for a well-deserved July vacation. In his
absence, Del
Bean (777-8658)
and Bruce
Liljegren (829-6690)
will team up to keep the pool running and the Ramada spruced
up. Notice a problem with the pool in July? Give Del or
Bruce a call.

The Power of the Sun
Sometimes we forget the effect of the sun on outdoor plastic
items. One item that you may not think of is the valve on
your home irrigation system. These valves often show signs of "melt
down". With our 100+ degree temperatures, it's like putting them in
an oven. One way to protect them is by using a reflective
cover. You can see an example of such a cover on the irrigation valve
at the Ramada garden--over
by the wall
separating the garden from the drainageway.

For Seasonal Residents
During the summer, the MMM likes to keep residents who are
away filled in on changes in the Green Valley area so they
won't be too surprised when they return in the fall. Fans
of El Charro restaurant in Sahuarita may be surprised to
learn that this restaurant recently closed. It will be
replaced by another restaurant reported to be run by some of
the same owners. The new restaurant will serve "high-end"
beer.

A New Version of the Surprise Party
EE resident Kay
Miller has
come up with a clever twist on the usual surprise party.
The hostess invites a few close friends, spruces up the
house, prepares refreshments and then leaves before the
party is scheduled to begin. Invited guests arrive to find
no one is home and wonder if they've had a Green Valley
moment and gotten the date or time of the party
wrong. Definitely a party no one will forget.
In this case, the hostess took an unexpected trip to the
emergency room, and would like to apologize to her guests.
Glad to know you're feeling better now, Kay.
